Prayer Meeting Information

We hope that you will find the peace and love of the Lord as you worship with us. Our main purpose in coming together is to worship God in prayer that is led by the Holy Spirit.

We sing as part of our worship, but our gathering is not meant to be a songfest.

We listen to the Word of God. If someone reads aloud from Scripture, we listen and try to open ourselves to the message that God is giving us in the passage(s). That is why we often observe a certain period of silence after listening to the Word.

For those who “have ears to hear” the Spirit speaks, manifesting His presence in our midst through His charismatic gifts:

“There is a variety of gifts but always the same Spirit; there are all sorts of service to be done, but always the same Lord; working in all sorts of different ways in different people, it is the same God working in all of them. The particular way in which the Spirit is given to each person is for a good purpose. One may have the gift of preaching with wisdom given by the Spirit; and another the gift of faith given by the same Spirit; another again the gift of healing, through this one Spirit; one, the power of miracles; another, prophecy; another the gift of recognizing spirits; another the gift of tongues and another the ability to interpret them. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who distributes different gifts to different people just as He chooses.” (I Corinthians 12:4-11)
You may hear us praying in tongues; this too is a gift of the Spirit who
“comes to help us in our weakness. For when we can not choose words in order to pray properly, the Spirit himself expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words and God who knows everything in our hearts knows perfectly well what he means, and that the pleas of the saints expressed by the Spirit are according to the mind of God” (Romans 8:26-27)
Sometimes we share aloud a spiritual insight given us by the Lord; or someone may testify to an event in his life through which the Lord has shown His goodness; but the meeting is not a discussion group.

In summary, these are some of the elements you may find at our prayer meeting;

spontaneous, Spirit-led prayer
worshipful singing
Scripture reading(s)
silent meditation
testimonies and sharing
prophecy
prayer in tongues
and other gifts.

As the Holy Spirit leads, the prayer meeting usually follows this loose structure, so that “all things be done decently and in order,” (I Corinthians 14:40)

Singing (music is used throughout the meeting, as the Lord leads,)
Introduction (call to worship, perhaps a statement of the meeting theme)
Time of Praise (includes prayer, singing in the Spirit, sharing of Scripture, opportunity to manifest the Spirit’s word gifts)
Sharings (personal witnesses or testimonies)
Teaching (a didactic or instructive word, usually pre-planned)
Period of Worship
Prayers of Petition
Closing

For those accustomed to other forms of prayer, it may take a while to become comfortable with this way of praying. It is our experience that as people pray together this way week after week, they grow quickly in the love of God and others, and many find, new meaning in their faith. We would be happy to have you return regularly and worship with us!
